News Alert: Northbound I-5 Closure at Castaic Tuesday Night

The following is a schedule of freeway closures for the NORTHBOUND I-5 Freeway at Hasley Canyon Road, according to CalTrans:

Full one-directional scheduled I-5 freeway closures are as follows:

The northbound I-5 freeway is scheduled for full closure on Tuesday 8/19/08 from 11:59 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Wednesday 8/20/08.

Court Reverses Home School Ban

California’s Second District Court of Appeal issued a 44-page ruling on Friday, Aug. 8 that said, “California statutes permit homeschooling as a species of private school education.”

With that, the court reversed its own ban on parents who lack teaching credentials but choose to teach their children at home.

The court added that these statutes may be overridden in the case where a child’s safety is in question.

Thursday, Aug. 14, 1:05 p.m.—The #2 lane on southbound Interstate-5 was briefly blocked by a big rig near Grapevine Road. The far right and two left lanes remained open. By 1:26 p.m. Jim’s Towing was on scene and helping to clear the lane.

Rumors Fly About Paramedic Tax

Rumors circulated through email lists between Pine Mountain neighbors Friday, Aug. 8 to Sunday, Aug. 10, as residents began lobbying each other over an item that will be on their November ballot.

If two-thirds of Pine Mountain’s voters agree to a $70 per parcel tax, starting in 2009- 2010 they will set in motion the first firefighter-paramedic program to be established in Kern County.

News Alert: Closures for I-5 Roadway Repairs Near Grapevine Tuesday, Aug. 12 to Friday, Aug. 15

Tuesday, Aug. 12, 10:20 a.m.: The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced it will close northbound I-5 lanes near the Grapevine to perform roadway repairs from Tuesday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 15.

Two to three lanes of northbound I-5 will be closed from Vista Del Lago to Quail Lake Road nightly, from 5 p.m. to 11 a.m.  One to two northbound lanes will remain open to motorists.
