Lebec (Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, 5 p.m.)—It appears that Superintendent Shelly Mason has submitted a letter to the El Tejon Unifiied School Board regarding her retirement. Though there has been no announcement from the district as yet, the trustees will be considering the retirement letter plus issues surrounding appointment of a new superintendent at their meeting Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
Mason was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia early Friday morning, May 1. She was reported to have had a cerebral event, requiring brain surgery. In recent months she is said to have been undergoing chemotherapy and directing all her energy and resilience to achieving a successful recovery. The school and community have responded with support.
The board of trustees will also select their new officers for the coming year at the December 9 meeting.
The public is welcome to attend the board's meetings, and is encouraged to do so. Meetings of the ETUSD Board of Trustees are held the second Wednesday of every month at the Frazier Mountain High School library (off of Peace Valley Road in Lebec) at 7 p.m.
