They Said It Couldn’t Be Done…The Best Darn Lilac Festival Ever

Photos and notes by Patric Hedlund

There were thousands of small moments when wide smiles and family fun planted deep memories during the 27th Annual Lilac Festival weekend of celebration. Top, Kern County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Brown took some time off from the sheriff’s substation booth to marvel at the amazing Pine Mountain Scrappers Quilt Guild Show, a breathtaking display of creativity in fabric art by mountain artists. Bottom, this young lady sports a lovely lilac face painting from the Kids Corner which had activities, storytelling and fun for the young’uns all weekend. The happy lass and her family were all carrying new parasols discovered in a vendors’ booth. There were 102 vendors, a record for the festival. Musical talent brightened every corner of Pine Mountain Village. We’ll be adding to this report next week, with more photos.
