Web surfers last week could see banner headlines from across the country and around the world reporting about events at Frazier Mountain High School. An elective month-long course called “Philosophy of Design” was offered during intersession, just two weeks after a federal court had ruled that Bible-based “intelligent design” (ID) could not be taught as a parallel to evolution in a public school biology class.

The legal team that won the Dover, Pennsylvania verdict joined with 11 FMHS parents to seek a restraining order to stop the course which had been authorized in a 3-2 vote by El Tejon Unified School District trustees during an extraordinary Sunday, Jan. 1 meeting. On Friday, Jan. 13, an attorney for the activist Discovery Institute which promotes “intelligent design”—flew in from Seattle to ask the ETUSD trustees to withdraw the class and to not go to court.
